The owners of a spacious townhouse in Haarlem wanted more warmth in their home — both literally and figuratively. The ten-metre-high void caused major heat loss. Choc Studio designed a glass structure that retains warmth while preserving the view of the impressive, custom-made wall covering. Underfloor heating with an oak herringbone floor was added for comfort, and gas fireplaces were integrated into bespoke room dividers between the living and TV rooms, and between the kitchen and dining area.
The question: how do you turn a spacious townhouse into a warm and comfortable home, without losing its character?
The clients wished to maintain the grandeur and openness of their townhouse while making it more pleasant to live in. How do you add warmth and atmosphere to a house with soaring ceilings and open spaces, without compromising its distinctive style?
The solution: bespoke design for warmth and atmosphere
Choc Studio proposed solutions that combined technical performance with aesthetics. The glass construction above the void holds in heat while maintaining light and views. Underfloor heating and an oak herringbone floor bring warmth underfoot. Custom room dividers with gas fireplaces subtly separate living areas while adding a sense of intimacy.
The result: a townhouse with warmth and style
The interiors feature Italian furniture by Meridiani and Marac, complemented by fabrics from Mark Alexander, Villa Nova, Silvera and Zinc Textile. Wall coverings from Wall & Deco, Arte and Harlequin add texture, while lighting from Contardi, Nemo, Fambuena and Key Light enhances the atmosphere. Fireplaces by Daniels add character, and all bespoke joinery was designed by Choc Studio and produced by Oostergracht.
