Interior design villa near Utrecht: from living room to basement bar, every room in one plan
In 2023, Choc Studio completed the interior design of a detached villa in Soest, near Utrecht, built in 2012 in a contemporary farmhouse style. The owners wanted a completely fresh start when they moved in: all new furniture, new kitchen fronts and cabinetry, and every room included in the design, from the living room and master bedroom down to the bar in the fully finished basement.
The brief: how do you make sure an interior actually turns out the way you pictured it?
The owners wanted to get it right first time. They knew what they liked, but also that decisions about proportions, colour combinations and lighting require more than instinct alone. They wanted to be certain that the finished interior would actually look the way they had it in mind.
The approach: using 3D visualisations as a decision tool, including for a 3.5-metre custom dining table
Choc Studio worked with 3D visualisations throughout, making every decision concrete before anything was ordered or built. For this project that wasn’t just a useful tool: the custom dining table is 3.5 metres long, and choosing that size without seeing it in context would have been a real risk.
In the living room, the sofa and armchair are by Marac, with cushions and pouffe by Pure Choc. The fitted cabinet wall and coffee tables were made to order by Oostergracht to a Choc Studio design. Flooring by Carpetlinq, wallcovering by Arte. Lighting by Stout Verlichting and Contardi; a floor lamp by Layer by Adje in the armchair corner. Dining chairs by Marac, pendant lamp by Tooy.
The existing kitchen was given new fronts in oak veneer and marble, fitted by Oostergracht. Marble by Lenarduzzi. In the master bedroom, the wall behind the bed was made to order by Macazz to a Choc Studio design. Wallcovering by Arte, rug by Van Besouw, lighting by Contardi and Zava Luce. Fabrics by Equipo DRT are used throughout the design.
The basement was fully included in the design. The bar, round tables and wine rack are all made to order by Oostergracht. Bar stools and chairs in Casamance fabric; the banquette by Macazz in Kirkby Design fabric. Lighting by Zava Luce and Zafferano.
The result: the house looks exactly as it did on the designs
The house looks exactly as Pien and her husband had seen it on the designs. Pien: “Luckily, we could already see on Julia’s 3D drawings that it would fit. I would never have dared to choose that table size without it.”
