Interior design renovation Overveen: from dated interior to finished home in one month

In 2016, Choc Studio completed the renovation and interior design of a villa in Overveen, near Haarlem. A father and daughter chose this home for a fresh start, but the existing interior didn’t fit that new chapter. Within a month, the house had new floors, a custom partition wall with a built-in fireplace, and a complete new interior. A renovation on this timeline means decisions have to be right the first time. Here’s how that process worked.

The brief: how do you give a dated interior a complete fresh start?

Steven bought the house shortly after his divorce, together with his daughter Sanne. The house was on a route Steven knew well from running, and it felt right straight away. The interior didn’t: yellow walls, laminate flooring and a layout that no longer matched the life they were starting. The question wasn’t just what needed to change, but how to get it right within a tight timeline.

The approach: realistic 3D visuals that gave the confidence to make one bold choice

Choc Studio worked with realistic 3D visuals of the design, so Steven and Sanne could see exactly how each room would look before anything was built. That clarity made it possible to decide quickly, and to go ahead with one choice they wouldn’t have made on their own.

The living room got a custom partition wall with a built-in fireplace, adding warmth and structure without closing the space off. For the dining room, Choc Studio proposed a bold printed vinyl wallcovering by Wall & Deco: a striking choice that gives the wall behind the dining table its own character. Floors, wall finishes and lighting were updated in the same period, so the renovation and the interior came together as one project.

The result: a finished interior with designer furniture, custom pieces and one bold wallpaper that fit perfectly

The living room is furnished with a corner sofa by Meridiani and pieces from the Pure Choc collection. The dining room has a custom black oak table designed by Choc Studio, with Pure Choc chairs and the brass Crown Minor pendant light by Nemo Cassina as the centrepiece. Lighting throughout the house is by Layer by Adje, Contardi and Fabbian, with curtains by Romo. Within a month, the house was fully renovated and furnished, ready for Steven and Sanne to start their new life there.

Steven: “Julia taught me that you sometimes need a bit of nerve with the choices you make for your home. She suggested the printed vinyl wallcovering in the dining room. I thought it was quite a bold move, but Julia convinced me it would look great. And she was right.”
